We know businesses need traffic to their website, social media, whatever online presence your business has. It’s a simple fact that if you’re trying to increase you customer base you need to get seen by an increasing amount of visitors.
While PPC is a great way of getting targeted traffic quickly, there is another method that is growing and has actually overtaken PPC and that is Display Ad Marketing. Visit any major website such as CNN and you will see banner ads on the site. These are display ads. If done right they can be effective, the trick is good design and frequent changes in the ad design.
Banner ads became notorious as being ineffective as people started to not notice them but one of the main reasons was the poor design and the same ad being used time after time. These days they are getting a new lease of life and are a much cheaper way of getting in front of a large number of people than PPC. While initially they are not quite as targeted as PPC, over time we can increase the effectiveness and eventually even target particular URL’s to display ads on.

One of the best uses of these display ads is in Retargeting Campaigns.
Retargeting is used to target people who have already visited your website. They have already shown interest but perhaps were not ready to buy or use your services at that point. Now this normally means most of these visitors will not return. Whatever it was they were looking for, when they come to actually need it they will have forgotten about your site and buy from the first business they find, which will not be yours.

Retargeting is a way to advertise to these visitors in the future, for up to 90 days as a retargeting pixel is dropped to their browser when they visit and then when you run an ad campaign it only shows the ads on sites where your visitors are viewing. See our Retargeting page for more details but this is a highly effective way of increasing conversions of visitors to your website at a much lower cost than if you were chasing new visitors.
The other way to use the display ads is to run what is called a ‘Cold Traffic campaign’. This is a campaign to target new visitors. This is important as it also builds up the number of visitors who you can go after in your retargeting campaigns. The retargeting is more effective but you still need new visitors so a mix of cold traffic and retargeting campaigns works best.
We can initially simply give you a piece of code which your webmaster can place in your website. This drops a cookie onto visitors which we are then able to tell you the amount of visitors your business is getting (you may already know this from Google Analytics) and then you have the option of running a retargeting campaign. Knowing the amount of visitors will help in determining whether you need a cold traffic campaign as well but if it is an established website we can usually start with just a retargeting campaign. This is cheap and shows you the benefit.
